Der Afrika-Cup findet im kommenden Jahr vom 9. Januar bis 6. Februar 2022 statt. Liverpool-Trainer Jürgen Klopp muss in dieser Zeit unter anderem auf seine beiden Stürmer-Stars Mohamed Salah und Sadio Mane verzichten. Es droht ein Worst-Case-Szenario.
Nach den aktuellen Regeln der FIFA können alle qualifizierten Länder die Freigabe ihrer Spieler durch die Vereine am 27. Dezember beantragen. Das würde im Umkehrschluss bedeuten, dass Mohamed Salah (Ägypten), Sadio Mane (Senegal) und Naby Keita (Guinea) bis zu acht Pflichtspiele für die Reds verpassen könnten, darunter auch die wichtigen Partien in der Premier League gegen den FC Chelsea und Leicester City.

Liverpool hofft auf Einigung
Liverpool hofft jedoch noch auf eine Einigung, um die Abreise des Trios zu verzögern. Trainer Jürgen Klopp plant, während der Länderspielpause im November Gespräche mit den Nationalmannschaften zu führen, um sie davon zu überzeugen, die Spieler erst im Januar gehen zu lassen. Das berichtet der Mirror.
Der Plan sieht vor, dass Salah, Mane und Keita zumindest noch für das Topspiel am 2. Januar gegen den FC Chelsea zur Verfügung stehen und sich im Anschluss auf den Weg zu ihren Auswahlteams machen. Mane und Keita starten mit dem Senegal bzw. Guinea erst am 10. Januar in den Wettbewerb, während Salahs Ägypten am 11. Januar sein Auftaktspiel bestreitet.
